recipe for Antique Rose Beads.... Gather fresh rose petals and grind them in a meat grinder or a modern food processor. Place the pulp and juice into an old iron skillet or pot. It must be iron, not a modern, coated pan, because the iron causes the petals to blacken. Let the pulp stand in the skillet for a day. or cook it on very very low heat stir occasionally. It should be dry in about a day. Grind again, dry it, and grind again for nine more days. On the ninth day, add a little water to make the mixture pliable. Roll the black pulp into small round balls. Put a straight pin through each bead. Stick the point into a piece of cardboard, and let the beads dry. The beads will slip in a few days, leaving a hole that can be used to string your necklace. You can also add a drop or two of rose oil on the ninth day if the rose beads lack fragrance. Dried rose petals can be used, but you will have to add rose fragrance oil to these. ---------another person writes------------------------------- Collect fresh rose petals from as many sources as possible. Simmer in a cast iron skillet on very low heat with a table spoon of water and a few drops of oil. The idea is to soften and blacken them. You must use lots of rose petals. As you are simmering them, you will need to work them to break them up. The idea is to form a dough like consistency. Then you (when they are cool) roll into small balls and thread on fishing line (which is clear) and add a fastener. They take weeks to harden and sometimes need to be helped along in a very slow oven. (If you help them along, don't add clasp and be aware that fishing line is nylon and will melt if the oven in too high.) I prefer to dry them in the sun...but it does take a long time to dry them. The oil in the rose beads is released when you wear them by the warmth of your body. They make lovely black beads and smell absolutely heavenly. -----------------yet another-------------------- the ingredients are : 1/2 cup flour 1 T.salt 2 T water 3 cups rose petals round toothpicks and a bowl. what you do is mix all ingredients (Except rose petals) in a bowl until it forms a stif dough. cut rose petals into small pieces mix small pieces in to dough with out making the dough crumbly.. make beads out of the dough. use the tooth picks to make holes and dry for a few days. string the beads on a cord after a few days this recipie makes enough for one neckalce make sure you remove the tooth picks before the dough dries too much. you can make the dough look like roses by carving the beads before they dry. Or make different shapes.
